DNA in transgeneic plants

In the genetic modification of food  the genetic make up of DNA is altered by using “recombinant DNA technique”. Recombinant DNA technique is the use of laboratory tools to insert or remove DNA or alter it from a certain strand.(8) DNA is first extracted from the cell through various techniques.The entire DNA strand is cloned and extracted from the cell, the recombinant DNA technique will cut the extracted DNA to separate the desired gene from the rest and then copied thousands of times. Scientists then design the gene to be able to work in other organisms by cutting the gene apart with enzymes and replacing the regions they have separated with the gene wanted. It would be very difficult to place the new gene into every single cell of a plant so scientists take the new DNA and place it in some select plant cells in a culture and then put the new cells with the desired gene back into the plant. The plant then grows until its mature and produces a seed with the wanted DNA in it and is handed off to farmers. (9)
